Cookie Policy
Last updated: October 1, 2026
This page lists everything Data Atlas stores in your browser: cookies, and the local storage the application uses to work. There are two kinds. Essential entries are needed for the site to function and are always set. Analytics entries are set only if you allow them, and you can change that choice at any time with the button below or the "Cookie settings" link in the footer of every page.
Essential
Set by Data Atlas itself. They cannot be switched off without breaking the service.
| Name | Kind | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
auth-session-token |
Cookie (HTTP-only) | Keeps you signed in after you log in with Google or GitHub. | 90 days, or until you log out |
oauth-state-google, oauth-state-github,
oauth-state-google-integration
|
Cookie (HTTP-only) | Protects the sign-in and Google-connect handshakes against forgery. Set when you start signing in and removed when it completes. | 10 minutes |
campaign_<id>_variant |
Cookie | On a public form: remembers which A/B variant you were shown so you see the same one if you come back, and so a view is counted once. | 30 days |
data-atlas-cookie-consent |
Local storage | Your answer to the cookie banner, with the date, so you are not asked again. | 1 year, then we ask again |
activeTeam, lastEditedFormId |
Local storage | Which team and which form you were working in, so the app reopens there. | Until you log out |
teamSidebarCollapsed |
Local storage | Whether you collapsed the team sidebar. | Until you clear site data |
responseBannerDismissed:<org>:<month> |
Local storage | That you closed the "running low on responses" warning for that month. | Until you clear site data |
globalDefinitions |
Local storage | Reusable field definitions you save in the editor. | Until you log out or clear them |
FormBuilderDB |
IndexedDB | Drafts of forms you edit before signing in, and offline copies of your work. | Until you log out or clear site data |
authReturnUrl |
Session storage | Where to send you back to after signing in. | Until the tab is closed |
campaignAnalyticsExpanded:<id> |
Session storage | Whether you opened a campaign's analytics panel. | Until the tab is closed |
chunkReload:lastAttempt |
Session storage | When the app last reloaded itself to pick up a new release, so it never reloads in a loop. | Until the tab is closed |
Analytics
Set by PostHog, our product analytics provider, and only after you choose "Accept all". Until then PostHog runs in a memory-only mode that stores nothing in your browser; it is still loaded, because it also delivers the feature flags the application needs, but it records no events. Session replay is switched off.
| Name | Kind | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
ph_<project>_posthog |
Cookie and local storage | An identifier for your browser, linked to your account after you sign in, so that the pages and features you use can be counted. | 1 year |
Choosing "Essential only" after having accepted stops capture immediately and returns PostHog to memory-only mode; the cookie it set earlier expires on its own or when you clear your browser's site data.
Third parties
Signing in takes you to Google or GitHub, and paying takes you to Lemon Squeezy. Those sites set their own cookies under their own policies. Forms you publish are served from data-atlas.net and set only the entries listed above.
Your choices
- Use the button at the top of this page, or "Cookie settings" in any footer, to change your answer.
- In the application, Settings has a Cookies section with the same control.
- Your browser can block or delete cookies and site data; blocking the essential entries will stop you from signing in.
